You’ve heard of internships, usually targeting young people…..but today there is a new concept, called “returnships,” for mid-career professionals to get back in the work force after caring for a child, parent, or other loved one.
A number of companies have recognized that there is a significant talent-pool that they want back in their organizations, and so a firm has decided to focus on finding these experienced workers and placing them in companies that want them. A “returnship” is a trial period for both the worker and the company to see if they “fit.”
A recent survey found that 90% of women wanted to come back to work in 2-3 years after childbearing, but only 73% succeeded and only 40% found full-time, mainstream work.
